Short answer

Udon Thani's central fruit and vegetable market (often called Mueang Thong market) is one of the biggest wholesale markets in Isaan. It's busiest from about 3 AM to 10 AM and again around 4 to 6 PM. Fruit stalls close in the evening, but vegetables are sold around the clock. You can buy small amounts, it just costs a little more than a full box.

This is one of the biggest wholesale markets in Isaan, Thailand's northeast: fresh vegetables, fruit and spices under roofs so long you can't see the end. It gets busy at three in the morning. While tourists are still asleep, sellers from all over the northeast drive here to Udon Thani to stock their stalls.

Nobody buys one bunch here. People buy by the sack and by the box, and every pickup leaves packed to the top. Some trucks even come from Laos and leave with tons of food. If you eat som tam somewhere in Isaan tomorrow, the vegetables in your bowl might have passed through here this morning.

On the fruit side, the day we visited, longan was 40 baht a kilo (about $1.20). Durians come in whole and get opened and packed in trays right on the spot.
